Pearlgate mourns the loss of a great friend.
It is with great sadness that we share the news that we have lost a great friend, coach and volunteer.
Becky Sjare passed away on Saturday, March 28 surrounded by her family.
Originally from Alberta, and an accomplished track and field athlete in her own right, Becky began coaching athletics in Newfoundland in 1994 and held many roles as a coach, official, executive and volunteer.
Inducted to the NLAA Hall of Fame in 2013, Becky had led athletes and teams at the club, varsity, provincial and national levels. She will be most remembered for her tireless spirit, generosity, leadership and dedication to the sport and the people of Track and Field in this province.
Becky touched so many lives in athletics, and her profound impact is unable be measured in mere centimetres or seconds.
A Facebook Group, called: “Memories With Becky” has been established to share memories and photos.
A Memorial Service has been scheduled for April 12 at the Admiral’s Green Club House in Pippy Park from 1PM to 4:30PM.
Work has begun in planning an annual track meet to be named in her honour at Pearlgate.
